This Rad Overland Toyota Land Cruiser 76 Is Also Literally Bulletproof

Inkas adds armor, expedition style to Toyota's forbidden fruit.

It's utterly concerning to consider the situation that would necessitate an armored vehicle, even more so an armored overland vehicle. What prowls in the bushes, under the brush, and in the sky amidst an otherwise barren, deserted wasteland may be more terrifying than what lurks in the lanes, on the rooftops, and in the buildings during crowded downtown rushhour traffic. But should the need or desire arise for an armored overland SUV (that's pretty specific, eh), one company has a drool-worthy solution based on an indestructible, totally lovable SUV. Built by Inkas Armored Vehicles, it's called the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser 76-Series Expedition Spec (TLC76), and it specializes in the personal security of its occupants in all terrains.

From the outside, the Inkas armored off-roader looks like a totally normal overseas Toyota Land Cruiser 76 Wagon that's been upgraded with some overland flare above and beyond the stock snorkel. True to its "Expedition Spec" title, several overland products find homes on the Land Cruiser: winch, aluminum roof rack, skid plate, and custom front end protection.

Pretty basic stuff, but super rad simply because of the vehicle and the fact that Inkas is onboard with the overland craze. Too bad this beauty, available in other markets—for example, Toyota in Gambia, a country in Africa, sells a left-hand drive Series 76 like this armored one—isn't sold here in the States.

The real magic is Inkas' inconspicuous use of armor that makes the Land Cruiser 76 bulletproof. The armor (NIJ IV/CEN BR6+ ballistic rating) can stop very high-power rifle ammo as well as the simultaneous detonation of two hand grenades from beneath. The aforementioned skid plate, specially designed by Inkas, also protects against blasts to the undercarriage.

To account for the added weight of the armor, Inkas beefed up the suspension and incorporated heavy-duty door hinges, for example—among the many other structural and reinforcement modifications. The battery and electronic control module also have special protection. The glass is bullet-resistant—and very, very thick. There's also Hutchinson runflat tires, full video surveillance, and a special locking system. Other options abound: intercom system, fire suppression system, heavy duty wheels, emergency lights, and more.

So there you have it: the unbreakable prowess of the iconic Land Cruiser combined with the security of bulletproof armor. You may still worry about getting lost in the wild, but should the bad guy open fire or a pack of wild animals go primal, you should be safe.
