New Volvo EX30 Buffs Up With Rugged Cross Country Model

The EX30 is handsome, but its Cross Country twin looks downright fun.

If you think the brand-new, all-electric 2025 EX30 is a compelling small SUV but were hoping for something with a heavier pour of adventure, Volvo has you covered. In a surprise side announcement during the reveal of the EX30, the company revealed the EX30 Cross Country—joining a long line of lifted, slightly ruggedized Volvo models that add a little spice to the company's otherwise sleek offerings. Let's take a closer look at what goes into the EX30's transformation into an EX30 Cross Country.

Masked Adventurer

The dark grille panel up front and its counterpart in the rear do a great job of differentiating the EX30 from the Cross Country, giving it a purposeful and tough appearance. The additional ground clearance—which Volvo currently quantifies simply as "more" helps, giving it a beefy stance.

Rolling on Not-Quite-Dubs

The EX30 Cross Country comes standard with 19-inch wheels with an attractive "inverted five-spoke" design, seen here in a dark finish that seems to match the front and rear panels. If you'd like more sidewall, 18s are available.

Rack Up a Win for Volvo?

The rack? The roof-mounted spare? Seems like those just illustrate something that an owner might do with an EX30 Cross Country, rather than a factory option—although a dealer-installed rack is certainly a possibility. After all, manufacturers are very much aware of how much adventure-oriented vehicle owners like to spend adding aftermarket bits. That said, Volvo's not saying much at the moment about accessories and options.

When and How Much?

Order books open in 2024, and production gets going later that year. That means there will be a palpable wait for this vehicle to arrive. Why show it off so early? Good question. We don't know how much the Cross Country will add to the price tag of the EX30, either.

Badge Engineering

Look around the EX30 Cross Country and you'll see a variety of little touches, as well, like a little Swedish flag on the hood. We'll have to crawl around the Cross Country in person to see how many other details and Easter eggs Volvo's hidden on this SUV.

Under Armor

Underneath, there are a variety of skid plates for some degree of undercarriage protection, although the thickness of the plates and what exactly they protect remain to be seen. While the additional ground clearance and any protection at all for the underside are appreciated, we're not expecting the Cross Country to tackle the Rubicon Trail—presume it'll be specced for a realistic use scenario.
